Final Declaration

We, the 70 delegates from 23 countries, partipating in the European Meeting of Cuban Solidarity Organisations:

  • Congratulate Cuba for its election to the United Nations Human Rights Council and as President of the Non-Aligned Movement.
  • We reafirm the willingness of the European Solidarity Movement with Cuba, to continue working to challenge the imperialist blockade that for more than 46 years has been imposed on the Cuban people by US governments.
  • We demand that European governments call on the US government to cease its inhumane and agressive policy towards Cuba, that ranges from the imposition of the blockade to putting into practice the so-called ‘Plan of Transition to a Free Cuba' known as ‘Plan Bush' aimed at the destruction of the Cuban revolution. We demand that the plans secret annex be immediatley published so that public opinion can be informed of the true imperialist nature of US policy. A policy that is prepared to employ whatever criminal method it feels fit to fulfil its objectives.
  • We demand that European governments pressure the US government for the extradtion to Venezuela of the interntional terrorist Luis Posada Carriles and the immediate liberation of the five young Cuban men currently serving long and unjust sentences for combatting terrorism directed at Cuba from within US territory. The politial nature of the trial was illustrated through clear illegalities within the legal process.
  • We demand that European governments end the so called Common Position in the European Union and adpot a just and  independent policy towards Cuba, that distances itself from US policy and represents the true feelings of friendship and respect that exists between European peoples and the Cuban people.
  • We call on the European media to end the disinformation campaigns and the manipulation of infromation about Cuba and to divulge the true situation of this heroic people, and a the same time we commit ousleves to develop our battle of ideas in order to spead the truth about Cuba within our societies.
  • We express our willingness to continue supporting Cuba in its struggle to build a more just society, where human rights are exercised including the human right to free health and education denied to many Latin American peoples due to the dominance of savage neoliberal capitalism in their countries.
  • We express our belief that Cuba will continue to progress its own development, and will continue to advance the implementation of the ALBA progamme rather than that of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA- ALCA) in Latin America, demonstrating to Europe and the world that a better world is possible.
